Where to stay - driving from Orlando to Miami along the coast?

hi all, I’m traveling to Florida in a few weeks for a vacation. Orlando is our first port of call and we are hoping one morning to drive to the Kennedy Space Centre and then afterwards drive south in the general direction of Miami (along the coast road). We wish to stay somewhere overnight to break the trip as it will be late we leave the space center. Any recommendations for city’s / towns along the route inc hotel names if possible. We are both in our early 30’s if that helps, like to walk around in the evenings, do a little sightseeing … thanks for your help!!
